

| No Jail For Repeat Drink Driver |

A repeat drink driver has avoided time behind bars for being caught over the limit yet again 66 year old pensioner Peter Robert Newson from Newnham returned a blood-alcohol reading of 0.178 when he was pulled over in Mowbray last November. He'd consumed around 25 cans of beer. Newson - who's licence was suspended at the time - told the Launceston Magistrates Court he's never hurt anyone when drink driving. He'd been caught six times previously. He was given a seven month jail sentence wholly suspended and was disqualified from driving for four years. |
