The Royal Hobart Hospital has received a formal complaint from nurses over the removal of ward clerk's, after hours and over weekends.
Nurses say patient care is suffering when they are constantly leaving to answer phones.
Complaints will continue to rise no doubt with Management calling for Physiotherapists to man the phones one day a week when a receptionist on a fixed contract finishes within a month.
Hacsu state secretary Tim Jacobson says its ridiculous
“We now have highly skilled nurses and allied health professionals undertaking work that was previously performed by ward clerks, that's the bizarre situation and its unsafe at the end of the day.”
