Tasmanian company Fairbrother Pty Ltd has been appointed as the preferred construction contractor for Stage 1 of the LIVING CITY project, at a Special Council Meeting held last night.
A ‘guaranteed maximum price’ contract will now be finalised with Fairbrother, with an early works package likely to be entered into in the meantime, so works can start in the next few months.
The 2 phase tender process was overseen by legal firm Page Seager.
Devonport Mayor, Alderman Steve Martin says the appointment marks the start of a construction boom for Devonport and the region.
Construction includes a multi-purpose civic building, a large food pavilion designed to showcase the regions local produce and a multi-storey car park should take 18 months to complete.
