Sara Zelenak family bracing for the worst

The family of a young Brisbane woman who went missing after the weekend terror attack in London say they're "bracing for the worst" as they wait to hear what has happened to her.

Sara Zelenak, 21, became separated from friends during the attack on London Bridge and the nearby market late on Saturday night local time.

Her family and friends have not heard from her since and she was known to phone her mother daily.

A photo of a happy and smiling Ms Zelenak featured prominently in British newspapers on Tuesday along with the story of her disappearance.

The Australian government says four Australians were caught up in the van and knife attack which left seven innocent people dead and 48 injured before the three terrorists were shot dead by police.

Among those killed was South Australian woman Kirsty Boden, 28, who had been working as a nurse in London.

Two other Australians were confirmed injured but are recovering well.

Australian authorities have not confirmed that the fourth person of concern is Ms Zelenak, who had been working as an au pair in London.

On Tuesday a woman named Tara who said she was Ms Zelenak's aunt spoke to media outside the family's home in Ormiston, southeast Queensland, saying the family was "emotionally distraught".

"The family is trying to keep it together but bracing for the worst, obviously," she said.

She then broke down as she described her "absolutely beautiful" niece.

"She's the girl next door, she's a very special, kindred spirit," she said.

"She's one of those girls that doesn't drink, doesn't do drugs, doesn't do anything wrong. She's amazing and she's 21 years of age."

Ms Zelenak's mother Julie Wallace told Brisbane radio station 97.3FM she and her husband had been looking forward to travelling to the UK to see their daughter.

"The last time I spoke to her was our time Friday afternoon at 4:42 and she said, 'Oh mum! It's only 28 days until you and I and dad can have baguettes and cheese and croissants in Paris. I'm so excited to go to Paris!'"
