JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR
Where: Princess Theatre Launceston
When: Friday, 10th August, 7.30pm | Saturday, 11th August, 1pm | Saturday, 11th August,7.30pm
Details: Following the success of Rock of Ages in 2016 and In the Heights in 2017, Launceston College is proud to present Jesus Christ Superstar as their 2018 musical at the Princess Theatre, continuing their tradition of large-scale LC productions.
Jesus Christ Superstar follows the last week in the life of Jesus and is loosely told through the eyes of Judas Iscariot. In the 2018 Launceston College production tensions are at flash point in the streets of Jerusalem. The youth have taken to the streets to protest corporate control of governments, spiraling inequality and ever-growing gap between the haves and have nots. “Enter Jesus Christ” the leader of the movement and along with his followers, The Twelve, they are demanding change. The Twelve lead their followers in pursuit of equality in the face of an all-powerful corporation, a debaucherous matriarch and a toothless government, who all are fated to collide in events that may just change the world.
All of this happens within Webber and Rice’s iconic 1970 Rock Opera - this will be an exciting, uplifting and technologically spectacular show.

The second annual Harvey Gibbons Memorial Quiz Night
Where: George Town Soccer Club Rooms, Blue Gum Park
When: Saturday, 11th August, from 6:30pm for a 7:00pm start
Details: On August 11, the George Town junior Soccer Club are hosting the second annual Harvey Gibbons Memorial Quiz Night. In addition to being the best grandfather a person could ask for, Harvey was such a kind-hearted person who would do anything for his community. He was well known for being the “quiz master” for any community organisation that asked him to. Last year we had our quiz night planned for August 12 and Harvey (being diagnosed terminal in January 2017) kindly offered to write our questions for us. Unfortunately, we lost him on August 8. During the setup of the quiz night, the committee of the GTJSC decided that the least they could do to honour this great man was to name the quiz night in his memory as well as our cake smash: We have 5 community identities who have agreed to take a cake on the night Mayor Bridget Archer, Councillor Greg Dawson, George Town Cricket Club past president Dean Gibbons, real estate agent Andrew Michieletto and Dr Ikechi Gbenimacho and we have set the target at a huge $10000! The idea being that we can keep $5000 for ourselves and $5000 will be donated to the Cancer Council Tasmania. Even if we don’t reach our target we are still donating 50% of all money raised from the cake smash. We are hoping that you may share our event so that we can help get a little more money for both organisations. To donate go to: https://www.facebook.com/donate/2068301940156775/
With the money raised from the quiz night we will be aiming to upgrade our change rooms so that our players can utilise the facilities after training. This would also mean we are able to host more events as we would have adequate facilities to do so. We would also be using the money to complete a concrete slab at the front of the building and a path leading to the playing grounds.
Cost: $10 Per Person, 8 people to a table
