There has been a slew of musical adaptations to hit the big screen in recent years, such as Les Misérables, Aladdin, The Greatest Showman, and In The Heights, all of which have garnered huge success.
Now courtesy of Universal Pictures, the next stage-to-screen instalment to add to the ever-growing musical film list is Dear Evan Hansen, which follows the story of a highly anxious and isolated high school student who becomes unintentionally caught up in a complicated web of lies following the suicide of one of his classmates.
Ben Platt, who was made a star playing Evan Hansen on the Broadway stage, returns to play the Tony-award winning titular role in the upcoming adaptation.
You may even notice some other familiar faces as the star-studded cast includes Kaitlyn Dever (Booksmart), Oscar-nominee Amy Adams (The Woman in the Window, Justice League), Oscar winner Julianne Moore (The Woman in the Window), and Amandla Stenberg (Everything, Everything).
It is also directed by Stephen Chbosky, the director and writer of the box office hit The Perks of Being a Wallflower.
Dear Evan Hansen quickly became a musical phenomenon after its opening on Broadway back in 2016, scoring a Grammy for Best Musical Theatre Album and six Tony Awards including Best Musical and Best Actor in a Musical.
Dear Evan Hansen hits Australian cinemas on 2nd December 2021.
