Tasmania recorded 1439 new COVID cases on Monday, taking the number of active statewide infections to 9662.

28 patients are in hospital receiving treatment specifically for the virus, including four in intensive care.

The pandemic-related death toll remains at 101 after a man in his 80s died in Southern Tasmania over the weekend.

It’s been revealed about 300 health workers are currently furloughed due to being COVID-positive or close contacts. 

They include frontline and administrative staff from the Tasmanian Health Service, putting additional strain on the system.

Cases related to the Launceston General Hospital outbreak have slowed, but two medical wards remain closed and visitor access is restricted. 

The LGH and the North West Regional Hospital escalated to Level 3 of their coronavirus management plans late last week.
