Police have intercepted a shipment of methyl-amphetamine, or ice, with a street value of $500,000 and charged an Ulverstone woman with trafficking.

A parcel containing 500 grams of ice was intercepted on February 2, which they say had the potential to cause harm to 5000 people through individual street deals.

A subsequent targeted search at a private residence in Ulverstone by the police North-West drug and firearms unit, resulted in a 30 year-old woman being taken into custody and charged with multiple serious drug offences, including trafficking.

She’s been bailed to appear in the Devonport Magistrate’s Court on April 29.

Police say they will continue to target seaports, airports and mail centres with screening and targeted searches to prevent the importation and distribution of harmful drugs.
