Bass Highway fatality

A 65 year-old woman has died after a head-on smash in the North-West on the Bass Highway near Hellyer on Tuesday afternoon.

Police say the driver of a white Holden Rodeo ute, from Crayfish Creek, succumbed to her injuries after the incident near Loosemores Road around 3.30 pm

The 32 year-old female driver of the other car, a blue Land Rover, was taken to North West Regional Hospital in Burnie with serious injuries.

Three passengers in the Land Rover were also taken to the North West Regional and are currently in a stable condition.

The Bass Highway was closed for seven hours while the scene was cleared and investigations commenced.

Police are preparing a report for the coroner and are asking anyone who may have seen the vehicles in the area, witnessed the crash, or may have dashcam footage to contact them on 131 444.

The fatality is the second fatal crash on the Bass Highway in less than a week, with a 70 year-old Burnie man dying in a single-vehicle crash near the Devonport Homemaker Centre on Friday afternoon.
