TasRail has released terrifying vision of a recent near-miss involving a train and a B-double at a level crossing on the North-West Coast.
The footage from the train driver’s cabin, shows a B-double, with a red or orange prime mover, carrying two shipping containers and speeding through the crossing at South Burnie, which has warning lights activated.
A post on Tasrail’s Facebook page says the incident happened late at night.
TasRail CEO Steven Deitrich says the incident, which could have easily been a fatal one, has been reported to Tasmania Police.
Mr Deitrich says TasRail locomotive drivers are regularly facing similar heart-stopping moments involving cars and heavy traffic and even near misses can have a traumatic effect on train drivers.
The North-West Coast has the highest rate of crossing incidents in the state, with sites in Devonport and Ulverstone recording the most near-misses.
