The elephant seal dubbed Neil has been coaxed away from a toilet block at Kingston, south of Hobart, in front of plenty interested onlookers.
Alex Jackson reported from the scene, where DPIPWE staff have been prodding the seal back down to the water.
“The DPIPWE staff have been quite clever the way they have gone about it, they have got a big board and a couple of big sheets and they’re just banging the board a bit, shepherding Neil down across Osborne Esplanade away from the toilet block where he’s taken up residence for the past couple of days, just with the odd poke of a broom, just to get him down that ramp back onto Kingston Beach to get him to head out to the water, but he hasn’t been too cooperative.”
Being a wild animal, Neil’s been moved on so he doesn’t become too comfortable around humans.
