Tenants now have the right to have pets in rentals from today under an amendments passed in parliament.
The state branch of the RSPCA applauding the change and expects the number of animal surrenders to reduce.
Minister Guy Barnett calling it historic.
“Pets in rentals as a right, now of course landlords can refuse but based on reasonable grounds and it must be reasonable.”
It was a state election promise from the Liberals.
Lanna Story shared her previous ordeal of being separated from her dog because she couldn’t find a pet friendly home.
“Since the law was coming to pass and people knew that was going to happen, based on prior experience finding a place was so much easier this time and I didn’t feel that I was excluded for having a pet in the first place, so I’m very grateful that I’m now able to be reunited with my beautiful dog.”
