Qld funding dwarfs Tassie’s request

$3.4 billion being supplied by the federal government for Queensland’s 2032 Olympics is not lost on Tasmania.

The deal involves a new 17,000 seat arena and a total makeover for the Gabba.

Premier Rockliff drawing the comparison to this state’s request for Commonwealth funding for a new waterfront AFL stadium for Hobart.

“When you compare $3 billion to a $300 million ask we well and truly deserve our fair share of key sporting infrastructure both in northern Tasmania and southern Tasmania.”

But state Labor leader Rebecca White sees it as a vastly different case.

“There’s legitimate reason why the federal government would be assisting the Queensland government to fund that infrastructure, as far as we can see the state government hasn’t put forward a very strong case at all for funding a stadium in Tasmania.”
