T-T Line plans to axe its day sailings when the new Spirit of Tasmania vessels begin service at the end of October.

The company quietly released information about the decision on its website.

“When the new ships start operating, our schedule will only include night sailings,” it said in its FAQs.

“Our timetable can change based on demand. The new ships have much more space, especially for caravans, motorhomes and other large vehicles.

“If demand is higher than this extra capacity, we will look at adding day sailings in the future.”

The company has blocked out a week from October 23 to the 30th to transition to the Spirit of Tasmania IV and V, and during that time bookings are unable to be made.

“It includes final operational activities, crew transitions, commissioning, systems verification and vessel preparation ahead of the first commercial sailings,” the company said.

“The period also provides the opportunity to undertake live operational testing of systems and processes, helping ensure a smooth transition to service and a seamless customer experience when we commence sailings.”

The first sailings of the new vessels are scheduled for October 31.
