Taskforce Viper busting crime

Drugs, guns, stealing and bail breaches have all featured heavily in 430 offences detected by Tasmania’s Taskforce Viper in just two months.

The top half of the state including Launceston, Burnie and Devonport is the hunting ground for the 6 member police unit established in January.

Police Minister Felix Ellis revealing 103 people have been hauled in by the Taskforce.

“These people are basically career criminals, or many of them, we’ve got to make sure that we are putting these people away, that sentences are appropriate, that we are getting these people off the street and it’s part of the ethos around Operation Viper as well as Operation Saturate is that if you really hammer these people you can catch them, but it’s also a deterrent as well.”
