Eight young men and 14 young women, in Year 12 and from 14 different schools will stay at the police academy and complete a range of training modules before completing fitness and job suitability testing.

Senior Constable Ruth Purcell from Recruiting Services said the initiative is aimed at students who have a keen interest in becoming a police officer.

“While they have a lot of fun, the students are being challenged and pushed beyond their everyday comfort zones,” she said.

“This week the students have been given a glimpse of a range of policing areas including forensics and operational skills and in the coming days they’ll do even more, with defensive driving and scenario-based training taking place later this week.”
