A sighting of a man with "something wrapped in black fabric" has sparked the evacuation of Melbourne's Southern Cross station.
Police said they were called to the station just before 6pm on Saturday after someone reported they saw a man with what appeared to be a gun wrapped in black fabric.
No gun was found but police searched the station, while some trains were stopped and passengers moved away as a precaution.
A man was arrested but was later released.
"The area will continue to be patrolled but there is no perceived danger to the public and train services will resume as normal shortly," a police spokeswoman said.
