About 100 guns stolen from Perth store

About 100 guns have been stolen from a store south of Perth, with police establishing a taskforce to investigate the burglary.

Officers were called to Claremont Firearms in Yangebup just before midnight on Thursday after an alarm was triggered.

Police believe the culprit gained entry through a neighbouring property and discovered a burnt out Toyota Hilux ute in nearby North Lake.

A formal audit has not been completed, but police believe the stolen firearms are mostly handguns.

Police have launched Taskforce Proper to investigate the crime and are asking anyone with information or dash-cam vision to come forward.

Detective Inspector Peter Foley from the Serious and Organised Crime division said significant resources would be deployed to the investigation.

"Firearms, particularly handguns, present a real risk to the community, and it is fair to say the intended destination of the stolen firearms is the black market, and into the hands of criminals," Det Insp Foley said.

"The community can be assured that police officers will be working 24/7 to investigate this incident and recover the firearms."
