Tasmania's small to medium business are among the most confident in the nation according to a new national business index survey.
Despite a slight drop in overall confidence from last quarter, 63% of Tasmanian businesses still have confidence in their own prospects over the next 12 months, according to the Sensis sponsored survey.
Tasmania and the A.C.T. lead the confidence index which collected the views of one thousand businesses across the country.
Sensis CEO, John Allan, said there are a few reasons for the positive result:
"Despite the six point drop in confidence, Tassie business confidence still leads the nation - albeit equal with the Australian Capital Territory this quarter. Tasmanian businesses list healthy sales and favourable business conditions as driving confidence levels."
