A man responsible for a shocking torture murder in Launceston could be paroled in 13 years.
Mark Rodney Jones dumped his victim's body in popular swimming spot Lake Eugenana in early 2017 after the hunt for a stolen car turned deadly.
Jones claimed he didn't mean to kill Bradley Breward despite toturing him at a Newnham flat, but a jury in June found the 43-year-old convicted rapist and ex-bodybuilder guilty.
The court heard Jones tracked Mr Breward down on New Year's Day in 2017, before waterboarding and suffocating the 22-year-old.
The killer has been sentenced to 22 years behind bars, with a non-parole period of 13 years.
His co-accused Ricky John Izard, who helped capture Breward, was given 10 years after pleading guilty to manslaughter, with a non-parole period of 6 years.
