Boil water alert for eastern shore

Taswater

Some suburbs east of Hobart are on boil water alerts after faecal bacteria was detected in Lauderdale reservoir.

Taswater says routine sampling found E.Coli, with a precautionary alert in place until more conclusive tests are carried out.

Lauderdale, Roches Beach, Acton Park and Seven Mile Beach are affected.

Water intended for consumption, teeth cleaning or food prep should be brought to a rolling boil, while the precaution isn't not needed for bathing and washing clothes or dishes left to air-dry.

It's prompted pot shots from Labor about the Hodgman Government's handling of water safety.

“After yet another failure to keep drinking water safe and clean, it’s clear the Liberals have given up," said the Opposition's Alison Standen.

“Thousands of people in Lauderdale, Roches Beach, Seven Mile Beach and Acton Park will get home tonight and be forced to boil their water to drink, or brush their teeth or to make formula to feed their babies.

“Even more households down the South Arm Peninsula who depend on water to fill their tanks will be impacted, and they need to know how long water may have been affected."
