A privately-funded $55 million medical facility in New Town Road is currently being considered by Hobart City Council.
Nexus Hospitals is proposing to build a new private specialist surgical hospital and medical complex at the old WIN TV site at New Town Road. A development application is currently before the Hobart City
Council for a six theatre, 24 bed hospital with 236 underground car parks, which will provide acute surgical services including eye, plastic and reconstructive, ear, nose and throat surgery and be collocated with general practice, pharmacy, radiology, pathology, conference and research facilities.
A poll showed the public was predominantly in favour of the proposition.
Without providing respondents with any detail about the proposal, EMRS reported that 67 per cent of those surveyed were in support of the 55 million dollar development, eight per cent stated their opposition, while the remaining 25 per cent were unsure or had no opinion.
Nexus CEO Andrew Petering said the survey provided key insights.
'After feedback received from Council and residents, we have significantly improved our design in response to some initial concerns about the original design.'
The proposed hospital is set to provide a jobs boost, expected to employ more than 130 staff, with further employment
opportunities within the medical hub.
