Tasmania Police is reminding motorists to ensure their loads are secured, after a concerning incident on Good Friday.
At around 3pm, police say several pieces of cut firewood came free from the tray of a ute travelling on Poatina Road at Poatina. The firewood fell and struck the windshield of a vehicle travelling in the opposite direction, causing significant damage. No one was injured.
The driver of the offending vehicle will be summoned to appear in court at a later date.
Authorities warn the incident had the potential to cause serious injury to the occupants of the vehicle struck by the firewood. Tasmania Police are currently conducting Operation Crossroads, with the objective of ensuring safe driving practices on Tasmanian roads over the Easter holiday period.
Police say it's a timely reminder that all road users need to ensure that their loads are properly secured at all times.
