Tasmania remains on track to have a container deposit scheme up and running next year after years of campaigning from environment groups.

It would offer a 10-cent refund for eligible drink containers returned to designated locations.

The state government has marked World Environment Day by putting out a call for Tasmanians to have a say on key design features of the scheme.

"The introduction of a Container Refund Scheme is an important action in Tasmania’s draft Waste Action Plan and we know there has already been a high level of interest from Tasmanians in the Scheme," said Environment Minister Roger Jaensch.

"We are committed to delivering the best scheme for Tasmanians, bringing together the beverage industry and the waste and recycling sectors."

Draft legislation is now open for public comment until July 9.
