It's Tasmanian Men's Shed Awareness Week!
The Sheds are a vital part of our community, providing a safe, supportive environment for men to learn & share skills, form friendships, and seek support for health and wellbeing issues.
Men's Sheds across the state will be promoting the benefits of joining the movement, and the important role our Sheds play in different communities.
The Tasmanian Men's Shed Association says it's about welcoming men of all ages for camaraderie, a sense of purpose, or to give back to the towns they're in.
As a part of the week, the State Government has launched a new grants program for 2021-22.
$175,000 is now available through two categories, after the initiative was extended to include mental health and wellbeing projects.
The first stream offers up to $6,000 for tools, equipment, men’s health, including mental health and wellbeing initiatives, member training and community initiatives.
This includes funding for Sheds to purchase hygiene and other equipment to assist with their relevant COVID-19 Safe Workplace Guidelines and COVID-19 Safety Plans.
The second stream includes grants of up to $20,000 or capital works.
