Tasmania has recorded its highest day of the pandemic yet - 1,489 new covid cases confirmed in the 24 hours prior to 8pm on January 6.
This is up from 751 cases the day prior.
5,208 tests were performed in laboratories.
330 people were released from isolation in the 24 hour period.
The state now has 4,681 active covid cases.
Eight people are being treated in hospital - three for covid symptoms, five for other conditions.
