Nicolas Cage returns as the notorious arms dealer Yuri Orlov in the newly released teaser trailer for Lords of War, the long-awaited sequel to Andrew Niccol’s 2005 cult classic Lord of War. Vertical premiered the footage, which sets up a January 22, 2027 theatrical release and reunites Cage with Niccol more than two decades after the original. In the new film, Yuri finds himself going head-to-head with his own son Anton (Bill Skarsgård), a ruthless mercenary who isn’t content simply following his father into the arms trade he’s amassing a private army to fight America’s conflicts in the Middle East, igniting a bitter father-son rivalry over power, legacy, and even the same women.

The teaser offers an early, intense taste of the blood-soaked showdown, with Cage back in the role of the charismatic gunrunner amid scorched battlefields and rising tensions. Alongside Skarsgård, the cast includes Laura Harrier, Sylvia Hoeks, and Greg Tarzan Davis. First announced in late 2023, the project began filming in late 2025 across Belgium, Morocco, and Egypt, with Cage, Philippe Rousselet, and Fabrice Gianfermi producing and Skarsgård executive producing. The official teaser is now available to watch, giving fans their first real look at this unexpected return to one of Cage’s more memorable characters.

Interestingly enough, He’s also homeless!

Nicolas Cage is living out of hotels after a coastal collapse in September forced him out of his Malibu beachfront mansion.
The Oscar-winning actor made the admission on October 31 during a panel at Los Angeles Comic Con. Asked about his Halloween plans, the 62-year-old replied: “I’m currently a little bit homeless. Something happened to my house in Malibu, so I’m just sort of living in hotels, so I don’t have normal trick-or-treaters I would like to enjoy tonight.”
He still celebrated with his 4-year-old daughter, August Francesca Coppola Cage (whom he shares with wife Riko Shibata). Cage said he planned to take her trick-or-treating in Santa Monica, then watch Stanley Kubrick’s The Shining after putting her to bed.

What Happened at the Malibu Property

The trouble began in September 2026 at Cage’s roughly 4,000-square-foot oceanfront home on Sea Level Drive. He purchased the property in 2024 for $10.5 million. It features a rooftop deck, private beach access, and Pacific views.
On September 8, a large collapse opened after days of heavy rain and high surf linked to Tropical Storm Marie (formerly a hurricane). The hole measured approximately 25–30 feet deep and 30 by 60 feet wide. It swallowed much of Cage’s driveway, damaged the deck, and extended into the private roadway—the neighbourhood’s only access point.
Malibu officials declared a local emergency. Thirty-one properties were red-tagged: seven deemed directly hazardous and 24 others cut off from safe vehicle access for residents and emergency responders. There were also gas leak concerns. No injuries were reported. Malibu High School provided temporary shelter.
Photos and aerial images from the scene showed a deep crater filled with broken asphalt, concrete, fencing, and construction debris, with waves visible through the damaged coastal area. The collapse has continued to grow in the weeks since, surrounding the side of Cage’s home and, in some reports, approaching the front door.

Cage has been working with city officials since the incident to protect the property. He filed multiple emergency permits within days of the September collapse, including for sandbagging against wave action and further erosion, debris removal, and soil sampling. The home continues to be uninhabitable for now due to the damage and restricted access, which is why he has been staying in hotels.
The situation has drawn attention not only because of Cage’s high-profile ownership but also as a sharp example of coastal erosion risks along Malibu’s shoreline. Officials and experts have reported that storms, high tides, and long-term erosion created the conditions for the failure.

Cage’s Candid Response

True to form, Cage addressed the disruption with understatement and dark humour rather than drama. His “little bit homeless” line quickly circulated after the Comic-Con appearance.
As of early November 2026, repair work and stabilisation efforts carry on in the Sea Level Drive area. Power and gas service to the street had been shut off for safety, and the road remains impassable to vehicles. It is unclear when full access will be restored or when Cage can return to the property.

In the meantime, the National Treasure star is making the best of an unusual situation hotels by night and Comic-Con by day!
